Ashvini Kandasamy

Ashvini graduated with a Masters of Science majoring in Communicative Disorders (2002) and Bachelors of Science majoring in Communicative Disorders (2000) from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (USA). She has worked in schools and private therapy settings for over 15 years, covering a variety of diagnoses with multidisciplinary teams. Ashvini is a firm believer in inclusive education and family-centered approaches to therapy.

Upon completing her studies in the United States of America (USA), Ashvini began her career as a school-based speech therapist in Kenosha (Wisconsin). She worked with students aged 2-21 in multi-disciplinary teams across 7 public schools, while also providing therapy for private clients.

After 5 years, Ashvini returned to Malaysia to work in a Speech Therapy Center in Petaling Jaya. She then ventured out on her own, successfully running Chatterbox Speech Therapy for 10 years. She decided to join Oasis Place in January 2018 to provide her clients with a wider range of support services in a multi-disciplinary setting.

Ashvini supports her clients and their families for a variety of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Downs Syndrome, fluency, expressive and receptive language delays/disorders, social-pragmatic difficulties, auditory processing challenges, and articulation/ phonological disorders. She is also experienced with adult fluency, stroke and traumatic brain injury. She implements Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems and strategies when appropriate to ensure every individual is given an equal opportunity to communicate.

Ashvini highly values evidenced-based practice and individualised therapy tailored to create success in and out of the clinical setting. She promotes inclusive education by willingly providing therapy in school settings to strengthen social pragmatic and language skills, while helping teachers provide the best educational support for her clients.

As she believes in a family-centered approach to therapy, Ashvini encourages parents and/or caregivers to be a vital part of the therapy process. She works with families to enhance speech-language skills through everyday activities, and prepares parents and/or caregivers to conduct activities at home to reinforce therapy goals and maximise progress for clients.
