Stephanie De Souza

Stephanie brings with her more than 12 years of experience to the speech therapy fraternity in Malaysia.  She has had vast experience in this field working with the paediatric population as well as their families.

A graduate of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia with a degree in Speech Sciences, Stephanie is also member of the Malaysian Association of Speech-Language & Hearing (MASH). Apart from that Stephanie has also been trained in the Voicecraft® technique and is Hanen certified in More Than Words.

Her career began at a speech-language therapy clinic in Petaling Jaya.  Here she worked with children and adults with varying speech and (or) language as well as communication difficulties. Through the clinic, she had the opportunity to service a private special needs school; to provide speech-language therapy to the students, work with the teachers to improve service delivery and to work with the parents of each student to ensure a holistic approach to intervention.

Personal commitments influenced a move to Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, where she saw spent the next four years as the sole private Speech Language Therapist in the state. The experience that came with that was truly challenging, as she worked with children and teenagers who came from 4 different language backgrounds; although being able to personally understand and speak only two languages. It was here that she saw first-hand the advantages of empowering parents to be their child’s advocate and “therapist” by working with the child through the parent. During this time, Stephanie also lent her services to her alma mater as a clinical supervisor for undergraduate Speech Sciences students in their clinical placements. She then returned to Klang Valley in 2011 and worked independently as private Speech Language Therpist.

Stephanie’s interests are in the areas of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), articulation disorders and early childhood language development. Her greatest drive is seeing the joy in families and being a part of the little successes that each child has to offer.

With that drive and her journey as a Speech Language Therapist, Stephanie looks forward to continuing her work with children and their families at Oasis Place.
