About The Event
Social Code Breakers draws concepts from Social Thinking to help children discover social rules. Social Thinking permeates every human relationship because it is our meaning-maker when we interact with one another. Some individuals do not acquire the rules of Social Thinking so readily and thus may have difficulty making sense of the world around them.
Based on several core concepts from the We Thinkers! (Vol.2), written by Ryan Hendrix, Kari Zweber Palmer, Nancy Tarshis and Michelle Garcia Winner, we will be addressing some deeper Social Thinking concepts. The main learning and teaching approach is through fun, exciting and relational ways. It will be conducted by a team of therapists from Oasis Place.
This is an INCLUSIVE camp and we welcome typically developing children and children with social learning weaknesses to simulate a typical learning environment. As this is a language-based approach, it is most suitable for children with normal or near-normal language development. Parents are invited to attend the last section of each day to learn what their children have experienced during the camp.
Using a combination of stories, music, dramatic play, and life skills activities, we will be unlocking some of the social codes which include:
- Group collaboration which allows children to learn about themselves and others
- Dynamics of working and sharing space with others
