The Benefits of Teletherapy are Clear
It’s Effective
Both local and international evidence shows that telepractice is just as effective as in-person therapy. Our clients using OPConnect have reported a high level of satisfaction with both quality and convenience, and have been pleased with the effectiveness of their online sessions in helping them reach their goals. All our therapists have undergone a high level of training to incorporate best practices into delivering services effectively and safely through videoconferencing.
It’s Convenient
Therapy sessions are delivered online via videoconferencing which means you can access your sessions at home, at your child’s school, at your workplace, or anywhere that suits you. All you need is a computer with a camera, a microphone, and internet connection.
No Travel or Waiting Lists
Teletherapy is available for everyone but it is especially useful for those who are far from our Kuala Lumpur centre. With OPConnect, there is no need to take time off school or work to travel to sessions. We deliver online therapy to your home, school or workplace, and at times that suit you.
It’s Easy
We use a range of videoconferencing applications including WhatsApp, Facetime, Skype and Zoom or whichever application works best for you. We can even connect for a short trial to make sure you are comfortable with the arrangement and so you’ll know what to expect at your first session.
Some children might benefit from shorter, more frequent sessions instead of full one-hour sessions. During teletherapy, parents can also make use of the session to discuss goals and challenges or learn about parent coaching, while the child takes a break.
There is a difference between passive screen time (watching TV) and active screen time (learning, creating, interacting, playing etc). Teletherapy screen time is active screen time and helps your child participate in targeted activities to facilitate and support learning and development. Online learning is also effective in improving parent communication with the child.
That depends on your child’s age and needs. Some children may need assistance with technical issues or help understanding and completing tasks.
Questions are always welcome after the session. You may send questions via email or ask your therapist to allow some time before the next session to address questions.
